Dark Shot

by Katerina Thomadaki and Maria Klonaris

- +

"The filmmaker and visual artist Maria Klonaris died unexpectedly in her sleep on January 2014. A child of the Greek diaspora, she had lived in three cities, Alexandria, Athens and Paris. As I struggled with my loss, I came upon a photograph I had taken of her standing behind a statuette of Astarte. This portrait was the beginning of a digital animation project which she entitled Dark Shot and which remained unfinished. In my frantic striving to bring her back to life, Dark Shot resurfaced in my mind, this time not as a film but as a book. A book edited like a film. Pages like film frames. Maria's words are spoken by her. Her drawings are tattooed on her face. Dark Shot is an immersion in her presence. A reawakening of her gaze and her subterranean powers. A new journey by Klonaris/Thomadaki twin dreamers beyond the wall separating the worlds" - Katerina Thomadaki
