Alejandro González Iñárritu

Building from the unexpected crossover success of his electrifying debut, Amores Perros, Mexican director Iñárritu has forged an  stellar Hollywood career with a cinema that despite its meticulous orchestration, always has a feeling of visceral spontaneity, his earlier films in particular employing a trademark structure of seperate but overlapping narratives and timeframes. Christened 'Hollywood's King of Pain' by Rolling Stone upon the bone-crunching release of The Revenant, the film went on to scoop muliple Oscars, just as his previous feature, Birdman, had done a year earlier.

Watch Alejandro discuss his approach to directing in this BFI Masterclass.
