Details

Exilios brings together four documentaries by Belgian filmmaker Chantal Akerman, one of the key names in cinematic modernity.

In D'Est (From the East), Akerman goes on a great trip through Eastern Europe filming everything that catches her eye: faces, streets, cars, doors, windows, men and women, young and old, passing and stopping, sitting or standing.

Sud (South), filmed in the south of the United States, follows in the footsteps of the lynching of a black man by three white men and how this tragedy is part of a mental and physical landscape.

De l'autre cote (From the other side) is the portrait of two diametrically opposed worlds condemned to live on the other side, Mexicans seeking to enter the U.S. illegally under the watchful eye of immigration services, and on the other hand, U.S. citizens who are wary of these waves of migration.

Finally, La-bas (Over There), is a self-portrait documentary in which the filmmaker - locked in her apartment in Tel Aviv, only going out to buy cigarettes or food - filmed around and through the windows while thinking aloud about the events, banal and terrible, that occur during her stay in this prison. Childhood memories, thoughts about loneliness, Judaism and the act of creation follow, which eventually form a unique and intimate portrait of the filmmaker.
