Details

Like his contemporaries Howard Hawks and Billy Wilder, Joseph H. Lewis (Gun Crazy) dabbled in many genres, but excelled in the film noir tradition. A Hitchcockian tale of mystery and intrigue, So Dark the Night was one of his finest pictures.

When French police detective Henri Cassin (Steven Geray) takes a long overdue holiday, he unexpectedly falls in love with Nanette (Micheline Cheirel), the daughter of innkeeper Pierre Michaud (Eugene Borden).

Although Nanette already has a boyfriend, she and Henri become involved. When Nanette is found murdered, Henri immediately suspects Nanette's ex-boyfriend of the crime, but when a police sketch reveals someone else's identity, how will Henri react?
