Václav Vorlícek directs this Czech adaptation of the classic fairy tale.
Living in a small village in the woods surrounding a grand castle, Popelka (Libuse Safránková) is forced to work as a servant undertaking menial tasks for her Stepmother (Carola Braunbock). One day, while out riding in the forest, she comes across a Prince (Pavel Trávnícek) and his hunting party.
After impressing the Prince with her excellent hunting skills and charming him with witty retorts, Popelka playfully dismisses his advances before returning home to her village.
Later, upon learning that there is to be a ball at the castle where the Prince will choose a wife, Popelka uses some magic acorns she was given by a merchant to create a spectacular dress as part of her plan to finally let the Prince know of her true feelings for him.
