"I revisit Hitchcock’s films more than I do those of any other filmmaker, except perhaps Buñuel. I visit them like the faithful visit the Ganges. I bathe in Hitchcock, the infinite and merciful."

Guillermo del Toro

The most celebrated, revered, studied and imitated British director, Alfred Hitchcock's many innovations have become part of the  fabric of film and wider popular culture.

From his control of the camera, his pulse-quickening command of the edit, his emotion-hightening use of light, colour and score to his exacting, often troubling, coaxing of actors, the mastery of technique evident in Hitchcock's films is entirely singular.

Here, the BFI's Nathalie Morris introduces a fascinating selection of behind-the-scenes images of the Master of Suspense at work.
