To celebrate the release of Maeve, the powerful feminist point of view on The Troubles co-directed by Pat Murphy, we've put together this great selection of films and books by and about women filmmakers. 

 

Still badly under-represented in the DVD & Blu-ray markets, films (particularly archive titles) by women directors do not have the visibility they deserve. Fighting this imbalance is a wider undertaking at all levels of the film industry, and for our part we want to ensure that titles by women filmmakers get greater attention and discussion. 

 

The BFI catalogue includes a wealth of incredible titles by women directors from Julie Dash to Agnès Varda , stretching from the earliest days of cinema to the present.
