Kenneth Anger

Making a movie is casting a spell

Kenneth Anger

One of the most influential experimental filmmakers of the last two centuries, known for his hermetic symbolism and wide-ranging cultural references. His seminal piece Scorpio Rising (1963) is often considered an emblem of the American underground film of the 60s. During his extraordinary, six decade-spanning career, Anger produced almost forty short films subverting the ideas of beauty and myth, cementing his status as a true countercultural icon.

Here's a good place to start if you're new to Anger's work.
