Pam Grier spent the 70s trailblazing through Hollywood, starring in over 20 films between 1971 & 1981 and earning her the title of the ‘Queen of Blaxploitation movies’. At a time when roles for African-American women were practically invisible or painfully stereotypical, Grier was the kind of star the industry hadn’t seen before: sexy, ballsy & black.
Girls on Tops started in 2017 with the question “wouldn’t it be cool if women in film were treated like rock stars…if Greta Gerwig and Annette Bening had their names on t-shirts too?" Since then their unmistakable, bold prints have become a film fashion fixture, worn by Lynne Ramsay, Greta Gerwig, Rooney Mara, Timothée Chalamet, Laura Dern, Annie Clark and more. Proceeds from their sales go toward funding female-led film projects and commissioning female-led film writing.
