Details

This bonus-packed Blu-ray collection contains a wealth of new and archival extra features, including documentaries and appreciations, interviews with actors and crew members, audio commentaries, and extensive booklets.

The films:

  • The Shadow of the Cat (John Gilling, 1961)
  • Captain Clegg (Peter Graham Scott, 1962)
  • The Phantom of the Opera (Terence Fisher, 1962)
  •  (Freddie Francis, 1964)

In The Shadow of the Cat a cat sets out to avenge the murder of its owner. When wealthy elderly woman Ella Venable (Catherine Lacey) is reported missing the police and a number of relatives, including her concerned niece Elizabeth (Barbara Shelley), arrive at her stately house to investigate. Unfortunately for them, only Ella's cat, Tabitha, knows the truth - that Ella was murdered for her fortune by her husband Walter (André Morell) with the aid of two servants. However, Tabitha sets out to bring justice to the murderers in her own way. Can she use her feline wits to get the better of them?

In Captain Clegg, set in the 18th century, Captain Collier (Patrick Allen) and his crew are posted to the English coastal town of Dymchurch to investigate smuggling activities. They are quickly made aware of the ghosts that supposedly haunt the area at night, but Collier suspects the local reverend, Dr Blyss (Peter Cushing), may be protecting a secret, too. Can he unravel the mystery?

In The Phantom of the Opera disfigured composer Professor Petrie (Herbert Lom) hides from the world in the sewers under the London Opera House, kidnapping a young girl to train as his protégée.

Finally, in Nightmare young student Janet (Jennie Linden) is sent home from her boarding school after experiencing a number of terrifying nightmares. Now under the care of her guardian Henry Baxter (David Knight), Janet's nightmares become more regular as she starts having disturbing visions of a mysterious woman dressed in white. When Henry then brings home his wife, who looks exactly like the woman from Janet's dreams, it is enough to finally push a hysterical Janet over the edge.
