In New York City, 12-year-old Mathilda (Portman) witnesses her family being gunned down by psychotic government official Norman Stansfield (Gary Oldman) and his team of corrupt cops. She seeks shelter with lone hitman Leon (Reno) and, when she learns his profession, demands he train her so she can avenge the slaying of her family.
