Based on the novel by Nell Dunn and starring Carol White (Up the Junction, Cathy Come Home) in the title role, Poor Cow is the story of a young woman in 1960s London who tries to cope while her husband Tom (John Bindon), a small time thief, is in prison.
Clutching at any fleeting chance of happiness, she has a relationship with his best friend Dave (Terence Stamp), with heart breaking consequences.
Poor Cow is the poignant, contentious film debut from Ken Loach (Kes, The Wind That Shakes The Barley, I, Daniel Blake), bringing the uncompromising style and incisive social realism of his TV work to the big screen.
