Suddenly, Last Summer casts three of Hollywood’s most iconic talents (Elizabeth Taylor, Katharine Hepburn, Montgomery Clift) in a daring and often delirious mix of lurid drama and Gothic horror. Sensational and wildly controversial at the time of its release, Suddenly, Last Summer now stands as a classic – and stills packs a provocative punch.
Elizabeth Taylor and Katharine Hepburn star in this 1950s drama based on Tennessee Williams' play. After witnessing her cousin's death while travelling with him in Europe, Catherine Holly (Taylor) suffers a mental breakdown and is confined to a mental institution in New Orleans. Her aunt, Violet Venable (Hepburn), attempts to persuade neurosurgeon Dr Cukrowicz (Montgomery Clift) to perform a lobotomy on Catherine in order to end her hallucinations and prevent her from revealing the truth about her son's death.
