A landmark for Black – and Queer – British film, Isaac Julien’s iconic, beautifully crafted 1991 period piece has been newly remastered by the BFI.
A convincing picture of late 70s London, youth culture meets identity politics in this part-thriller, part-gay love story set days before the Queen's Silver Jubilee celebrations. The hedonistic world of pirate DJs Chris and Caz is shattered when a close friend is killed while cruising in the local park. The black community suspect the National Front, but the police have other ideas.
⭑⭑⭑⭑ ‘it still feels fresh, buoyant, likable and emotionally open….this film still has a life-giving pulse of energy’ Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
