Made of highly flammable cellulose nitrate, screening a nitrate film requires a special licence. The upside is a cinema experience like no other. Nitrate film has the deepest, richest blacks and the truest colours of any film stock.
Exhibition of Nitrate film requires a rigorous system of checks and safeguards. The graphic on this bottle is directly adapted from the nitrate safety signage which has been a fixture in our projection boxes and film vaults for decades.
At the BFI National Archive, we work hard to restore and preserve nitrate film for future generations to see. And BFI Southbank is one of only a handful of cinemas globally which are able to screen nitrate.
By purchasing this product, you can help make that work possible.
The bottle is double walled, vacuum insulated, copper lined stainless steel and will keep hot drinks warm for up to 12 hours, with cold drinks chilled for up to 24 hours. It's powder coated in vibrant safety yellow with our distinctive nitrate safety warning graphic in black.
The bottle measures 118 x 55 x 8 mm (500ml capacity) and comes in a 100% recyclable card box.
The BFI is a registered charity which supports, promotes and preserves film, television and moving image in the UK. Every product purchased helps support the work of the BFI.
