To mark Cinema Unbound: The Creative Worlds of Powell + Pressburger, the BFI's major retrospective of the work of Director Michael Powell and writer Emeric Presspurger, we've produced this limited edition notebook set.
Each notebook features archival artwork from one of the great duo's films.
The first notebook features an original Danish poster design for Powell and Pressburger's haunting masterpiece The Red Shoes.
While creating the film's evocative sets, designer Hein Heckroth made over 2000 sketches, detailing every scene in expressionistic detail. Just under a decade later, manufacturer Rasch commisioned Heckroth to adapt his distinctive drawings into a wallpaper design. The resulting pattern adorns the wrap-around cover of the second notebook in this set.
Heckroth went on to work on Powell's controversial classic Peeping Tom. Another of his wonderful production designs adorns the set's third notebook.
The notebooks are A5 (148 x 210mm), are a mixture of plain and ruled, and come bound with a BFI-branded band.
The BFI is a registered charity which supports, promotes and preserves film, television and moving image in the UK. Every product purchased helps support the work of the BFI.
