The first film to alert Western audiences to the riches of Japanese cinema, Rashomon was remade in Hollywood as The Outrage, starring Paul Newman, and is credited by Bryan Singer as his inspiration for The Usual Suspects.
Nominated for two Oscars, three BAFTAs and winner of the Silver Lion award at Venice Film Festival in 1954, Rashômon won the Academy Award for best foreign film.
