Description

Directed by Miklós Jancsó

Hungarian filmmaker Miklós Jancsó directs this socialist paean depicting the rise and fall of a peasant revolt.

Winner of the Best Director Prize at the 1972 Cannes Film Festival, the film - shot in just 28 long takes - recounts the story of a peasant uprising in Hungary, delivering an exuberantly expressive essay on the nature of revolution and the underlying issues of oppression, morality and violence.

Radical in execution and poetic in scope, Red Psalm is inspired by folklore and song, Jancsó's camera travelling amongst groups of moving figures in an elaborate cinematic ballet.
